Ala. –
The library at Addison High School was full of students, teachers and parents on Thursday to witness the next step in one Bulldog softball standout’s athletic career. Lainey Joe Evans signed a scholarship with the Lurleen B. Wallace Lady Saints out of Andalusia, Alabama.

Ms. Evans has been on Addison’s varsity team since the eighth grade. She has primarily been a shortstop and has been an offensive leader for the Lady Bulldogs. Lady Saints Head Coach Kaitlyn Hadley has informed Ms. Evans that she will have every opportunity to play her freshman season. Lainey Joe said that she just wants to go down there and “have fun, help the team in any way that she can and hopefully help the team improve.”

Ms. Evan’s parents, Gary and Delinda Evans, were present and were obviously very proud of their daughter.

“We are so proud of her, of all the hard work that she has put in and that she will be able to continue doing what she loves,” Delinda said. She added that Lainey Joe has come a long way since she first started playing softball. “Her confidence has improved so much, I mean when she went to her first softball practice, her dad basically had to drag her out of the car because she was so shy.”

T.J. Deemer, Ms. Evans’ Birmingham travel ball coach, made the trip north to attend the signing.

“Lainey Joe has the best work ethic of any player that I have ever had,” Deemer said. “Lainey’s work ethic will propel her to success well after she is done playing softball.  It will lead her to success in life.”

Lainey Joe had other offers to play softball but stated that after her visit to the Wallace campus in Andalusia and meeting with players and coaches she just felt at home. “

Coach Hadley just has a way of making you feel like you belong. Like you are among family. I loved it there.”

Lainey Joe still has to lead the Lady Bulldogs this season, before she takes off for the college ranks. I am sure that she will do everything she can to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a successful season and she will have a bright and successful college career.

Good Luck Lainey Joe!
