Municipal Primary: Who is on the ballot in north Louisiana parishes

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – After no one challenged Bossier City Mayor Tommy Chandler for the upcoming Municipal Primary in March, there are many other candidates in Bossier, Caddo, and other north Louisiana Parishes on the ballot.

Bossier Parish Qualifying Candidates

Councilman Chris Smith’s Bossier City at Large Council seat and the District 2, 3, and 5 seats are on the ballot. Brian Hammons, District 1, did not face opposition, and Joel Girouard, who was also unopposed, will fill the District 4 seat currently held by Jeff Free.

Shavonda Gay will continue to serve the town of Plain Dealing as District 1 Alderman as she faced no opposition in her run for the seat.

A familiar name to local politics, Jerry Bowman, wants to extend his temporary appointment to the Caddo Parish School Board into an elected post. He faces Mariam Harley of Shreveport.

The town of Mooringsport will choose a new police chief.

DeSoto Parish Qualifying Candidates

The DeSoto Parish Police Jury District 1C seat and the DeSoto Parish School Board District 6 seat are on the ballot.

Red River Parish Qualifying Candidates

Two hopeful candidates are vying for the District 6 seat on the Red River Parish School Board.

Sabine Parish Qualifying Candidates

District 9 school board incumbent Dean Johnson faces challenger Sheryl Scott for his seat on SPSB. Police Chief of the Town of Many and Many Alderman at Large are both on the ballot.
