Man killed, woman injured in Woodlawn shooting early Saturday morning

CHICAGO – A man was killed and a woman was injured after a shooting in Woodlawn early Saturday morning.

Chicago police said the shooting happened just before 3 a.m. in the 6600 block of South Champlain Avenue.

Officers were sent to the area to investigate reports of a person who had been shot. When officers arrived, they were met by a 42-year-old woman who had been shot twice in the arm. The woman then directed officers to an apartment where they found an unresponsive 38-year-old man who had been shot in the chest, according to investigators.

Police said the man was taken to University of Chicago Hospital where he was pronounced dead, while the woman was treated on scene and taken to University of Chicago Hospital where she is listed in good condition.

A gun was found on scene and Area One Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
