London native Jordan Allen hits the big screen on the newest season of ‘The Voice’

LONDON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Kentucky man took his vocal skills to the big stage for millions to hear. London native Jordan Allen made it past his blind audition on season 27 of “The Voice.”

Allen, 30, has been singing and writing songs for years. Now he is taking his next step into the spotlight. Allen recently had a superstar performance in a televised singing competition this past Monday.

“I just knew that ‘The Voice’ would offer me an opportunity to be in front of, you know, millions of people, and so when the opportunity arose, I thought it was a no-brainer,” said Allen.

From a young age, Allen knew he had deep musical roots in his veins, blending southern rock with Appalachian Mountain vibes.

“I started playing drums when I was like six and picked up the guitar about 14 and started singing and writing songs at 15, and, never from that point when I started writing songs, I never really thought about doing anything else with my life,” he said.

Allen performed “Old Time Rock n Roll” by Bob Seger at his audition.

“Almost all of my favorite records came out before 1980, and even in my branding as an artist, the throwback to music of days of old is a big part of who I am as an artist,” Allen said.

In the end, he received chair turns from judges John Legend and Michael Bublé, which means they both wanted to coach him. But when it came to decision time, Allen joined Team Legend.

“You know Bublé was like standing on the chair, and he was so enthusiastic, and I think in that moment, I’m like, okay, I got done, I’m like, okay, I’m gonna go Bublé, and just hearing John’s pitch, you know, he spoke last, and you know, I have a very strong work ethic, and John kind of spoke to that. He gave me constructive criticism, and it made me see that, you know, John is about getting down to business and working because he knows that’s how to be successful, and so I just wanted to be around a person with a like mind,” Allen said.

Allen said that his experience was like no other.

‘I’ve said it before; it feels like almost a dream, and in one way, like a dream come true, yes, but, like, you know how a dream feels like it’s almost like out of body,” said Allen.

But it was even more special that he wasn’t alone at his audition. His mom and wife were off-stage cheering him on.

“You know, my mom, she’s always been such a supporter for me to do this, and as always, before this was always trying to find avenues for me to be able to do this,” said Allen. “And then obviously my wife; she’s actually the one that encouraged me to quit my day job and do this full time. So, I can’t say enough about how much it meant to have my wife there, and if you watch the audition, like she’s crying, she has truly seen every struggle, every time I thought about just giving it up. She’s seen it all, and she got to see that happen for me, so like that’s indescribable.”

He said on Monday he watched his performance with his family on TV. He adds that watching with his kids was a moment he’ll cherish forever.

“Monday night I was like, I remember turning around looking at my wife, and I was like, Is this real life? I’m watching myself, and, you know, the sweetest part was seeing like, my kids and my wife like on that whole segment,” said Allen.

When the next performance airs, he will perform with another member of Team Legend in the battle round. Then coach John Legend will decide which of the two will advance to the next round.

Allen said that his experience on “The Voice” so far blew his expectations out of the water on how positive it would be.

“They really care about your performances. I just would like to say that I have been very blessed by people on that show,” said Allen.

Aside from the competition, he said he has plans to release more music later this year. You can find his music page here.
