CHICAGO — A child has died after they were injured in a fire that erupted at an apartment on the city’s North Side on Friday morning. Two others, including a firefighter, were also injured in the blaze,

The deadly blaze broke out at a building in the 2700 block of West Granville Avenue in West Ridge.

SkyCam9 was over the scene at around 11:15 a.m. when the building was fully engulfed in flames and fire crews could be seen working to control the fire from the ground and a nearby roof.

Chicago fire officials confirmed to WGN-TV that a child and an adult were taken to the hospital in critical condition following the fire. The child, whose age is unknown, later died from their injuries.

A firefighter was also taken to the hospital in good condition.

Authorities have not yet identified anyone involved and it is currently unclear what sparked the blaze.

Fire officials are set to offer an update on the deadly blaze at a news conference scheduled to take place at 12:30 p.m. and it will be stremaed live in the video player above.
