Thursday morning, the Abilene Police Department told KTAB and KRBC that a reported kidnapping at Arby’s was actually a domestic situation and that no criminal activity was involved.
Police say employees at the restaurant called to report a disturbance involving a couple, and when officers made contact with this couple, they learned the male party had made the female party leave the restaurant because she was highly intoxicated.
“Officers determined no criminal violation had taken place and ensured both involved parties were safe,” a press release from the Abilene Police Department explains.
The press release also states that some Abilene citizens “have taken it upon themselves to create a narrative of a kidnapping” and that these citizens even contacted two males who had nothing to do with the situation and accused them of being kidnaping suspects.
“This is truly a situation of social media getting completely out of hand. If this kind of reckless fabrication of information continues to be put out there,” the press release states. “It could place innocent individuals in danger of retaliation for something they were not involved in.”
