Abbott ends DEI programs in state agencies

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order Friday that directed all Texas state agencies to eliminate any forms of DEI policies.

“DEI agendas divide us rather than unite us and have no place in the state of Texas,” Abbott said.

Previously in 2023, Abbott signed a bill banning DEI practices at Texas’ public institutions of higher education.

“We must always reject race-based favoritism or discrimination and allow people to advance based on talent and merit,” Abbott said about the executive order.
