Brad Mugford made a post on X about a person who repeatedly emailed him about acquiring a domain name. The replies to the post are varied. For me it underlies the problem of cold emailing another domain investor about a domain name. You cannot follow the same principles that email marketers use when doing outbound marketing.
A few of the replies to Brad’s post stated “the money is in the follow up” we all have heard that phrase before. I wanted to see what the so called Guru’s were writing on the topic.
The first result on a Google search comes from BusinessHorsePower.com.

It goes on to say:
That might be so but domain investors probably check their emails more than most. They are always checking for offers, renewals, etc…
The bottom line is the name has to have value and you need to be selling cheap. Like one investor once told me many years ago, “I only want to buy from you when it’s obvious I am getting the best of it. You need cash and I can take advantage.”
Now one person mentioned that you can say not interested after the first email and probably avoid the follow ups. The seller did not provide an opt out in their email which is actually a no-no. When you send an email you should provide that to comply with the Can-Spam Act.
Email businesses that can truly use the name you are offering but don’t try to hustle another domain investor who is only looking to get a truly valuable, liquid domain name for pennies on the dollar.
