Man wanted for January shooting in Rockford caught near the Indiana border

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A man wanted for a January shooting near Rural Street in Rockford was arrested today by the U.S. Marshals.

Damajae McKenzie, 27, was wanted on charges of Aggravated Battery and Aggravated Domestic Battery for a January 8th attack that occurred at 5:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Rome Avenue.

Police said a 38-year-old male shooting victim was found at the scene and rushed to a local hospital.

Police learned McKenzie, a Rockford resident, is wanted for attempted murder for a crime in Lake County, Indiana.

Police said he was taken into custody on February 13th in Calumet City.
