JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Lights are back on at Thalia Mara Hall in Jackson, but the doors remain shut.

City Attorney Drew Martin said on Tuesday that leaders spoke with the State Fire Marshal last week.

Contractors still have to complete minor cleanups before they can be in full fire code compliance. Martin said Thalia Mara Hall is awaiting a new, custom fire curtain installation.

“The major issues that remain are that there has to be hydrostatic testing done on the fire sprinkler alarm system. That’s a test that’s done together to make sure that when there’s an alarm, the sprinklers turn on and the fire is put out. That’s being scheduled. The elevator escalators still need to be inspected. In the past, maintenance reports for those need to be provided to the to the state, as well to the Fire Marshal. That’s in the process of happening, as well,” said Martin.

The facility closed in August 2024 after mold and other safety issues were discovered.

According to Martin, Thalia Mara Hall can reopen for events, but the fire department must be present until the new fire curtain has been installed.

There’s still no timeframe for when the facility will reopen to the public.
