Dau was found deceased in the Pearl River in Lawrence County in April 2024 after he disappeared in Jackson in March 2024.
According to the report provided to WJTV 12 News by the family of Dau’s wife, Karissa Bowley, Pathologist Dr. Daniel Schultz ruled Dau’s cause of death as drowning. However, the manner of his death was undetermined. In the report, Schultz said Dau’s death was either by accident or his own intent.
“Mr. Dau Mabil has no significant external or internal bodily trauma (but for being found immersed in water) or intoxicants detected. His body condition was good enough to exclude significant bruising, lacerations, or injuries that had occurred during life,” Schultz said.
According to the first autopsy report from the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office, Dau’s cause of death was ruled as a drowning, but his manner of death was undetermined.
The first report stated no external signs of trauma or injury were identified that could account for Mabil’s death. A postmortem toxicological analysis of his liver tissue and decomposition fluid detected the presence of ethanol.
Dau’s brother, Bul Mabil, believed foul play may have been involved in Dau’s death and wanted a second autopsy.
