RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Rankin County deputies arrested a man for trafficking fentanyl after a chase.

According to Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey, a deputy attempted to stop a black Nissan for a traffic violation around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 9. He said the driver, Marlon Brian Warner, 51, of Jackson, failed to stop. During the chase, Bailey said the deputy observed Warner repeatedly throwing a powdery-like substance out of the driver’s side window.

Authorities were able to deploy stop sticks, which disabled Warner’s vehicle. It came to a stop near the intersection of Highway 25 and Marshal Road. He was arrested without incident.

During the arrest, the sheriff said deputies and Warner were exposed to dust inside the vehicle, which was suspected to be fentanyl. Flowood firefighters and the Pafford Ambulance Service responded to the scene to examine and evaluate those who were exposed.

Bailey said deputies recovered several different colored pills throughout the driver and front passenger area of Warner’s vehicle. They also went back and searched the general area where the suspect was observed throwing evidence from the vehicle.

The sheriff said a field test of the pills showed a positive result for Fentanyl.

Warner was transported to the Rankin County Jail. He has been charged with felony fleeing and felony trafficking of a controlled substance.
