Local figure skating and hockey clubs holding fundraising gala

IDAHO FALLS — Two local nonprofits, who are teaming up to host their first-ever fundraising gala, are seeking the community’s support as they put on this event.

The Idaho Falls Figure Skating Club and the Snake River Youth Hockey Association are holding “The Roaring Twenties” gala on March 1, 2025. The fundraiser will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn, 700 Lindsay Boulevard in Idaho Falls, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

“This is the first time … since I’ve been around, which has been 20 years in this area, we’ve never had an event where the two competing ice groups have come together to fundraise,” said Sydnee Nethery, a United States Figure Skating Association coach who coaches for the Idaho Falls Figure Skating Club and is a representative for Snake River Youth Hockey Association.

The gala will feature a catered dinner and a bar. Entertainment will be provided by Tijuana Sound, the team behind the lights, music and effects at the Spud Kings games.

There will be a dessert auction and a high-value silent auction. Some of the items that will be part of the silent auction are a hockey basket with a full set of gear from Kicks N Sticks, $1,000 gift card to The Laser Mama, a Freedom and Fire engraved gun and a discovery flight from AvCenter.

“The main thing (the funds raised will go towards) is securing ice time for these kids,” Nethery said. “Outside of the fees each of the families pay individually to keep their own athletes on the ice, we have to pay to utilize these facilities and to go to these competitions and bring in these incredible guests that work with our kids.”

The Idaho Falls Figure Skating Club provides opportunities that Nethery said aren’t typically seen in the area. The skaters have trained with current and former Olympians, performed in world-renowed ice shows and most recently, they had Disney on Ice do a clinic with them. This was one of only three clinics Disney on Ice has ever offered in the history of their company, according to Nethery.

The Snake River Youth Hockey Association is in its inaugural year. Nethery said they surpassed all of their rostering expectations and have brought in elite guest coaches to work with their players. Above all, she said they’ve created an environment for all types of hockey players to grow — from a player that’s brand new to the sport or one that wants to further develop their competitive skills because they’ve been playing for a while.

“We’re hoping to keep these kids on the ice (and) make these sports a lot more visible, and the best way we can do that is fundraising and being able to continue doing big events for them,” Nethery stated. “At the end of the day, we’re just showing up for the kiddos. Anything we can do to fundraise for them, that’s what we’re doing.”

“We want the businesses to know that we value their sponsorship,” Nethery mentioned. “We make sure the community knows they sponsored. … We want people to know these are the businesses that are supporting the kids and supporting the people that are trying to help these kids stay in sports and have any positivity in their life.”

Tickets are $50 per person or $500 for a table and can be purchased here. Those who attend the gala are encouraged to dress in 1920s attire.
