Their dog was put down after he succumbed to his injuries from being mauled by two large Rottweiler dogs the morning of Thursday, February 6, in their Over Place Area Neighborhood.
Reecey’s owner, Linda Dennis, is now seeking justice for her fur baby and accountability for the Rottweiler owners. Dennis mentioned this all began around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, when her family let the dog outside on the leash to use the bathroom and sunbathe. A routine they do every single day. However, this particular morning, Reecey was approached by two large dogs and attacked. Thrown up in the air multiple times and suffered puncture wounds. Her son heard the commotion outside and rushed out to get Reecey, but by then, his injuries were severe. A hard decision was made as Dennis rushed the dog to the veterinarian.
“His teeth were ripped out of his mouth from him trying to fight back and he had a big, a big chunk taken out of his muzzle in his back hind leg. He was in pain and no matter how much pain meds they gave him, it wasn’t working. I mean, he was still in pain, and we had to make a decision, and it was a decision I didn’t want to have to make. So, we had to put him down,” explained Dennis.
Dennis says her family has seen these two rottweilers roaming around the neighborhood in the past unleased, but her dog was always inside, and the dogs did not seem aggressive. Unsure what happened to make them fatally attack her dog. While authorities have been contacted, and a report has been made. Dennis was told she has to wait 10 days for an investigation to be complete to determine what the next steps are. Hoping the owner can be held accountable for the dogs’ actions.
“I just want justice for my dog. You know, he was in his own yard, you know, doing his own business on a leash. And they were just throwing my dog around like a ragdoll. Their dogs were roaming. They kept getting out the back yard. If you know they’re going to keep getting out, why do you keep putting them back there without putting them on a leash or something? You know, I mean, I’m a dog lover, of course, You know, and it depends on how you raise your animal to how they react to things. They came over here before, but he wasn’t outside. My son had to stop him on the side of the house one time, but they didn’t seem aggressive,” added Dennis.
Dennis is paying the vet bill of more than $900 with a credit card. Now, she stressed how to make that payment, with this vet visit being an unexpected expense. Currently in contact with the dogs’ owners, but no agreement has been made between the two.
“I don’t think it’s fair that I had to put my dog down, and these dogs might not get put down, you know, and they might not be aggressive. But, I mean, what if that was a child? You know, I mean, it was my child, but it was a fur baby and not a human,” added Dennis.
Reminding pet owners to keep their dogs leashed and secure to prevent someone else from going through the pain she is going through.
“I’m a dog lover, of course, you know, and it depends on how you raise your animal to how they react to things. When you own a pet like that, that is your responsibility,” shared Dennis.
