More wind and snow showers in the forecast this weekend. Here’s what you can expect

IDAHO FALLS – More snow, rain and wind may be headed to eastern Idaho this weekend.

The National Weather Service in Pocatello is issuing a winter weather advisory for the central mountains and eastern highlands beginning Thursday at 11 p.m. A wind advisory will go into effect for the Snake River Plain and other parts of the state beginning Friday at 5 a.m.

Anywhere from 5 to 12 inches of snow is expected in the higher elevations Friday.

In eastern Idaho, forecasters are predicting a cold front moving through the Pocatello and Idaho Falls area around 9 a.m. Friday and around 11 a.m. in Driggs.

“Conditions as the cold front comes through will deteriorate quickly and be prepared for quick drops in visibility where precipitation is occurring as snow,” the NWS says in a weather briefing Thursday afternoon.

Around one or two inches is likely in the lower end of the valley and up to 3 inches in the Upper Snake River Plain.

Wind gusts will range from 45 to 55 mph on Friday and will “gradually diminish Friday night,” according to the NWS.

While the wind and winter weather advisories will be in effect until 11 p.m. Friday night, snow showers are expected to linger into Saturday morning and taper off by mid-day. Additional information is available in the graphics below.
