The facility closed in August 2024 after mold and other safety issues were discovered.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office said they conducted an inspection at the facility in Jackson last Thursday. Since then, the City of Jackson has made some improvements to the building.
Connie Dolan, deputy chief with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, said the city has repaired the alarm system since the recent inspection was completed, but more improvements are needed.
“We told them that as long as the sprinkler system and the elevators and the escalators were repaired, then we would allow them to reopen with the exception that they had to have a fire watch during all the events here until the fire curtain could be replaced,” Dolan stated.
City officials said there’s no timeline for when Thalia Mara Hall will reopen. They said crews are working non-stop to complete the job.
“So, it’s not really on our time, on our timeline. We’re working to schedule those with the companies that need to come out and do that. So, we’re working on that, making the phone calls to see when they’ll be available to come out. But it’s a high priority,” said Melissa Faith Payne, Director of Communications for the City of Jackson.
