Man pleads guilty to stealing items from business and selling them to scrap yard

A former Mountain Home man pled guilty to charges that he stole items from a welding company and sold them for scrap during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court on January 27.
Twenty-eight-year-old Brandon Dalton Terrell, who lists an address in a small town in Independence County, was sentenced to six years-probation.

The owner of the business located along Cannie Baker Road, said the missing items included a small generator, aluminum oil cooler and antique outboard boat motor. He estimated the items might have been sold for several thousand dollars at a scrap yard.

Restitution in the case is now set at almost $5,000. Terrell told the court that many of the items taken had been returned and was not in agreement with the current restitution figure.

A restitution hearing has been set for February 10.

The victim said a security camera he had recently mounted at his business did show a small silver colored vehicle with dark tinted windows, a spoiler on the trunk and a sunroof on his property.

A young, slender white male was seen walking around outside the vehicle. A neighbor also reported seeing a car matching that description on the property.

The suspect was reported to have returned and disabled the security camera. The victim estimated that Terrell may have allegedly taken items from his business in October and November of 2023.

At one point, investigators were tipped that a car like the one that had been shown on the security camera had been spotted at a local scrap yard.

A check of a license plate showed the vehicle belonged to Terrell.

He was later arrested and charged with theft of property and criminal trespass. He was released on a $5,000 bond.

A failure to appear warrant was issued on Terrell in August when he was a no show for a court appearance. The warrant shows it was not served until two and a half months later.
