Fresno State’s radio station just got more powerful

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Fresno State’s radio station just got significantly more powerful – the university says recent infrastructure improvements are bringing student and faculty-curated music further than ever.

The university says their broadcast radio station KFSR (90.7FM) was updated with a new antenna and transmitter on Jan. 1, increasing broadcast power from 2,600 to 4,500 watts. This change will significantly boost its signal saturation making it on par with other local radio stations, like Rock 105.1 (4,700 watts).

The school says planning for the project began over 10 years ago and construction started in the fall of 2024. The project was made possible by KFSR listeners and donors.

KFSR began broadcasting in 1982 with 250 watts and increased its power in 1987 to 2600 watts. The station gives students hands-on experience in radio programming, music management, audio production, marketing/public relations, development, event management, web content/development, industry relations and more.

Programming is hosted by volunteers, including Fresno State students, faculty and staff, alumni and community members.

Those outside the broadcast range can listen online on kfsr.org.
