Abilene couple accused of letting dog ‘suffer and slowly die for months’ arrested

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An Abilene couple accused of letting a dog “suffer and slowly die for months” was arrested.

Tara and Preston Reid were both taken into custody Tuesday for Cruelty to Animals in connection to the death of a dog named “Lulu”.

Court documents state Tara Reid contacted animal control to come get the remains of Lulu after she died in November, and when the officers arrived on scene, they “discovered an extremely emaciated dead dog, with a large mass on its head.”

Reid advised that she had taken Lulu to the vet to receive treatment months prior.

The documents also state that when a vet examined Lulu’s remains, he determined that she had been in atrophy for 2-3 months an would have been in immense pain for a long time.

According to the documents, this vet determined Lulu died from starvation and that she was “made to suffer and die slowly for months without pain medication.” He also claimed he would have recommended euthanasia due to the size of Lulu’s mass.

Preston Reid also lived at the home with Lulu and is accused of knowing about her condition and not doing anything to help.

Both Reids were released from the Taylor County Jail after posting a $1,000 bond each.
