JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Leaders with the City of Jackson announced a project will further invest in lighting along Highway 18.

According to officials, many people have gotten into wrecks on the highway due to poor lighting. Councilman Brian Grizzell, Ward 4, said the lights will help promote safety in the community.

“I want to be clear that this lighting project is about the safety, security and pride of our communities as they travel along Highway 18 or as we travel along Highway 18. I want everyone to be reminded of the accomplishment that we can do a lot more together. This is a shared purpose. This was a shared project, and I’m grateful,” Grizzell said.

Nearly 90 lights have been installed along the highway.
