Tulare assemblywoman reacts to budget to ‘Trump Proof’ California

TULARE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Tulare assembly member Alexandra Macedo issued a statement regarding Gov. Gavin Newsom’s plan to “Trump Proof” California, urging to place the funds in other issues affecting the state.

The statement comes after Newsom and Democratic legislative leaders planned to set aside up to $50 million in funds through SBX1-1, which would provide $25 million in funds for the state to defend itself against legal actions taken by the federal government and SBX1-2, which would provide $25 million to provide legal services to people facing deportation in the state.

Macedo argues, however, that the funds should be set aside for other issues affecting the state -including water allocation and credit card debt.

Facing high prices for everything from rent to food, Californians struggle to pay their bills. Unable to pay for everyday expenses, residents resort to charging their credit cards resulting in high debt. In the Central Valley, communities are without clean, reliable drinking water. Farm land is being fallowed because there is no water.

We need water.

Wildfire victims need help to rebuild.

We should work with President Trump to help wildfire victims, to build our water infrastructure and to lower costs, not pick legal battles.
Alexandra Macedo.

This is not the only time Macedo has expressed discontent with proposals regarding fund allocations in the state; she recently introduced AB 267, a bill that would redirect the money utilized to fund the California High-Speed Rail Project to water infrastructure and wildfire prevention.
