“We’re super excited,” Hawkins said. “So students and staff would have to travel between both campuses throughout their day to get the support and the services that they needed, so it’s most exciting that now we’re all together in one place.”
Superintendent Kirk Shrum said the multi-million dollar campus was funded through various grant programs.
“Not only to purchase the property and purchase from a community partner,” he said. “But then also to invest in the infrastructure, remodel the interior, add in some modular components as well, plus all new equipment, all new furniture.”
And offers various options and schedules for students who cannot attend school in a traditional way.
According to their website, Visalia Charter Independent Study (VCIS) is a charter school focused on meeting the needs of students in grades 9-12 who desire a flexible approach to education.
“I just think something that’s kind of unique about our school is that we do offer a virtual learning program,” said Hawkins. “Students can actually be anywhere in the world and attend our school as long as their family resides in the county.
