FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A woman was struck by a vehicle Saturday night, and the driver fled the scene without attempting to help get her medical aid, Fresno Police say.

Around 10:30 p.m. Saturday officers in southeast Fresno were dispatched a call of a vehicle versus a pedestrian at Belmont Avenue and Fifth Street.

Police say they arrived to find a woman, believed to be in her 30s, lying injured in the roadway.

She was transported to an area hospital for treatment and was last believed to be in critical condition, officers report.

Investigators learned that the woman was in the roadway prior to the collision, and the vehicle that struck her left the scene.

Officers believe the involved vehicle may be a red pickup that continued in an eastbound direction on Belmont Avenue.

Detectives are working to find out what led up to the collision and are trying to locate witnesses.

They ask anyone with information in this case, or who may have video surveillance camera footage, to please call Fresno Police at 559-621-7000.
