In light of citizen Eddie Pugh receiving a settlement just short of $100,000 following his wrongful arrest, KTAB and KRBC filed a Freedom of Information Act request to get information on all of the lawsuits settled recently.
The City of Abilene then provided the following list, which shows sums of $148.71 to $101,319.99 were awarded across 52 different settlements from January 1 to December 31, 2024:

The total dollar amount of these settlements awarded by the City of Abilene in 2024 is approximately $392,907.50.
KTAB and KRBC asked the City of Abilene how the process for reaching settlements works and when or if the decision to reach a settlement is ever brought before the city council or a public vote, but the City declined to offer a comment, saying “just like a lawsuit between any two parties, every circumstance and particulars of a case vary.”
