The Taylor County Republican Party hosted a watch party to witness the historic event. Member Eric Bengs shared his excitement at seeing his campaigning efforts come to fruition and expressed optimism about upcoming changes in the economy.
“It’s been an opportunity to do some work for the party and to be actively involved in trying to make a difference. As we’ve done that, to see today happen, has been really exciting for the Republican Party as a whole and for us individually,” Bengs said. “I think that Mr. Trump has some great ideas about how to bring our economy along. I think we’re going to see things like going to the grocery store and not having to pay so much, going to the gas pump and seeing our prices drop.”

At the Heart of Downtown, at Everman Park, a different opinion was being shared by the Abilene chapter of The Party of Socialism and Liberation. A protest against Donald Trump’s second term was filled with signs and stories of how members like, Nia Colon, felt about his policies.
In the heart of downtown at Everman Park, a different perspective was voiced by the Abilene chapter of The Party of Socialism and Liberation (PSL). Their protest against Donald Trump’s second term was driven by opposition to certain policies, which PSL member Nia Colon described as potentially harmful to many.
“We’re not only fighting for a new system, but we are trying to shed some light on the policies that Trump wants to enact as soon as he gets into office. These policies are going to be harmful for women, for immigrants, for the LGBTQ,” Colon said.
Fellow organizer Josh Blasingame said he believes Trump’s second term will be a repeat of the first, adding that it’s time for a change and a new direction.
“We’ve already seen four years of Trump and he had his chance back then and he’s not going to do it now. We think the only way to serve the workers is if the workers have a say in how things go,” Blasingame said.
Republican Liz Case, whether you voted for Trump or not, shared her advice for the next four years: give him a chance to prove himself.
“Wait and see, give him a chance and see if he’ll do what he says he’s going to do. See if he’s going to work for you, even though you didn’t vote for him; that would be my message. Give him a chance,” Case said.
Both the Taylor County Republican Party and the Abilene chapter of the Party of Socialism and Liberation, a part of a national organization, announced plans to continue campaigning for their respective causes in the future.
