Bitter Cold Temperatures to Persist Until Wednesday

Bitterly cold air continues to dominate the region, with temperatures “running just above zero,” says National Weather Service Meteorologist Jeff Hood in a Monday morning update to KTLO News. “With an occasional gust of wind, we’re seeing wind chill values occasionally dip down below zero,” Hood added. This dangerously cold weather is expected to persist over the next couple of days. “It doesn’t look like we’re going to warm above freezing until possibly on Wednesday throughout the day,” Hood explained. Highs today are forecast to climb to the mid-20s, but temperatures will plummet back into the single digits overnight. “We could see some occasional northerly winds that influence the temperature, and that could provide, once again, wind chill values at or below zero,” Hood warned.

will be exacerbated by increasing cloud cover from a weak front passing through. While “portions of Kansas and Oklahoma could see some light snow associated with this front,” Hood said, “across portions of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas, we’re generally going to be talking about only an influx of cloud cover as this system moves through.”

Temperatures are expected to begin climbing by Wednesday, offering some relief. Until then, residents are advised to prepare for the bitter cold and take precautions to stay safe.
