Police share new details on Snyder ISD threat investigation
SNYDER, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) — Last week, Snyder ISD canceled classes on Thursday following a threat emailed to school board members. Now, police have revealed more details about the nature of the incident.

The email was sent around 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15. Due to the late timing, authorities could not gather enough information or issue an “all clear” before school began, leading to the precautionary cancellation of classes on Thursday, January 16, 2025.

Following a thorough investigation, law enforcement gave the “all clear” on Thursday night, allowing schools to resume normal operations. While specific details were initially withheld, an increased law enforcement presence was maintained across all campuses as a precaution.

On Saturday, January 18, the Snyder Police Department released new findings. The email included a name believed to be fake and an address located in Dallas.

“Information was obtained that the address in Dallas, TX, is linked to a group involved in swatting incidents across the United States,” Snyder PD stated in a press release.

Swatting involves deceiving emergency services into dispatching a police or emergency response team to an unsuspecting person’s address. Investigators believe the email was an attempt to prompt such a response to the Dallas address, which is allegedly connected to swatting activity nationwide.

“At this time, we do not believe there is, or ever was, a threat to Snyder ISD. This investigation is ongoing, and no further information will be released at this time,” Snyder PD shared.

The Snyder Police Department is working with Dallas PD, Texas DPS, the FBI, and Homeland Security Investigations throughout the investigation.
