Man & dog rescued from fully engulfed house fire in Coleman

COLEMAN, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A devastating house fire in Coleman prompted a swift response from fire responders, who rescued a man and his dog while working to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby structures.

ColemanToday was on the scene of a house fire on San Saba Street and shared details with KTAB/KRBC. According to Coleman Fire Chief Jimmy Watson, firefighters were dispatched to the 500 block of San Saba Street at 8:24 p.m. on January 19.

“As soon as our team at the station recognized the severity of the situation, they quickly mobilized. I left my house near the airport, and you could already see the fire. Marty Baker [Chief of Police] and Jeff were around the corner when they heard someone shout that a house was on fire. They promptly came over to help the occupant, who was in the back building and assisted him and his dog to safety. Fortunately, nobody else was in the building at the time,” Watson told ColemanToday.

When crews arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames, with the roof collapsing. Due to the extent of the fire, the structure was deemed a total loss. Firefighters focused their efforts on protecting nearby buildings to prevent the flames from spreading further.

“That was all we could do at that point,” Watson said.

The Coleman Fire Department will remain on-site overnight to ensure the fire is fully extinguished. Watson noted that residents might see significant steam conversion, which could be mistaken for heavy smoke.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
