IDAHO FALLS — A woman is hurt after a car struck her while she tried to stop traffic.
The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. south of John Adams Parkway and 45th East.
Sgt. Bryan Lovell says a driver pulling into a driveway, but the gate was locked, so the vehicle needed to back out. A 68-year-old woman wearing dark clothing stood in the road to stop traffic so the vehicle could back up.
While she stood in the road, a vehicle traveling south hit her, and she landed in a canal.
An ambulance transported the woman to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. A female adult driver was in the other vehicle, and she had no injuries.
Lovell says it’s best to avoid stopping traffic if at all possible, but if you need to stop traffic, call a deputy or officer for assistance.
“You’ve got to consider if you’re wearing dark clothing,” Lovell said. “You’ve got to consider what the other drivers can see. With this time of year, it’s dark early, and headlights can only see so far.”
