State. Reps Lambert and Darby vote Burrows for Texas House Speaker

BIG COUNTRY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Yesterday, January 14, Stan Lambert (R-Abilene) of Texas House District 71 and Drew Darby (R-San Angelo) of Texas House District 72 cast their votes for Dustin Burrows as Texas Speaker of the House.

“Speaker Burrows understands the challenges we face west of I-35 and has proven ability to face those challenges through effective, conservative policy. Under his steadfast leadership, Texas House will deliver meaningful results that will improve the everyday lives of West Texans, addressing issues like border security, water infrastructure, school funding, and property tax reform,” Lambert said.

“I will proudly vote for conservative Republican Dustin Burrows of Lubbock to serve as our next Speaker of the Texas House. Anything less would be a disservice to House District 72 and the communities of West Texas I am honored to represent. Dustin Burrows is one of us. He lives, works, and raises his family right here in West Texas.” Darby said.

The race for the state’s Speaker of the House was contested between Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock) of Texas House District 83 and David Cook (R-Mansfield) of Texas House District 96.

The votes took two ballots, and no candidate had enough votes to become speaker the first time. At the second time, Burrows received 85 votes to become the new Texas Speaker of the House.
