Officials with the Oakland Zoo announced Friday they have named her Azules after the Montes Azules Biosphere Preserve in Chiapas, Mexico, the rainforest she came from.
Just three days ago, Yourcentralvalley.com’s sister station KTLA reported Azules was in critical condition, but zoo staff now say she is eating well and her organ functions look good; however, her proteins and calcium levels are still low due to her malnourished state.
The zoo is currently working with CDFW and the Wildlife Confiscation Network to find Azules a home where she can grow up in a troop of other spider monkeys.
