IDAHO FALLS — An Idaho Falls woman is dead, while her husband was transported to a hospital after a crash involving a UTV in Arizona on New Year’s Eve.
According to Bullhead City Police Department spokeswoman Emily Fromelt, Trena Yvette Reinhart, 48, of Idaho Falls, died. Fromelt said police have not yet received an official cause of death from the medical examiner’s office.
The fatal crash happened on Dec. 31 at 3:40 p.m. on Arizona Highway 68 near Landon Drive in Bullhead City. This occurred in Mohave County, Arizona, which is approximately 97 miles away from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Emergency crews responded to a report of an SUV versus UTV accident with “serious injuries,” according to a news release from the police department.
A 2004 red Ford Explorer was reportedly traveling westbound on Highway 68 when it collided with a Can-Am off-road vehicle that was attempting to cross the highway, police said.
Trena was the passenger in the UTV and died from her injuries on the scene. Her husband, Laurence Jason Reinhart, 49, of Idaho Falls, was the UTV driver. He was flown by air ambulance to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas with serious injuries.
No one else was reported inside the UTV.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, Dennis Mathias Hogue, 76, of Mohave Valley, was transported to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center by Bullhead City Fire paramedics with non-life-threatening injuries.
As of Thursday, Laurence remains in the hospital in Las Vegas, according to Fromelt. She said he is currently in stable condition.
She added that it is undetermined if Laurence was wearing a seatbelt during the collision. Police believe Trena was not wearing a seatbelt as she was ejected from the UTV.
The crash remains under investigation.
