‘Let’s make the most of it’: Abilenians enjoy a rare day in the snow

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – On Thursday morning, residents across the Big Country woke up to the rare sight of a snowy winter wonderland outside their windows. Seizing the unusual opportunity, many stepped outside to enjoy and make the most of the winter magic.

Abilene Christian University student Elizabeth Walter shared with KTAB/KRBC that she made the most of her day, appreciating the rarity of snowfall in Texas.

“I’m from San Antonio, so I don’t see snow a lot. It was really exciting to wake up and see snow over the ground,” Walter said.

Caden Caire, an ACU senior, said that most people prefer to stay warm inside, but they should take a moment to step outside.

“A lot of people can see this is dangerous. It’s cold weather. You got to stay inside. We were like, Let’s make the most of it,” Caire said.

At Cobb Park, community members were invited to a city-wide snowball fight. Mario Mayorga said he and his family used the time to make memories and enjoy each other‘s company.

“Life goes by too fast, and we just want to try to make all kinds of memories with them. That way, when we get older, we have something to look back on,” Mayorga shared.
