Whiskey Myers is laying it down.
If you’ve been to a Whiskey Myers show, you know how electric their stage presence is. From Cody Cannon rocking out on stage to each band member’s heads banging to their Southern rock music, it’s an experience like no other. While the bulk of a Whiskey Myers show highlights their prolific catalog, here and there, they throw in a cover of a classic tune, and it never disappoints.
Earlier this year, I was addicted to watching a clip of them during soundcheck at Red Rocks, where they were messing around with Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.” It was such a change of pace for the group, and they delivered a stellar cover. Given that this was just during soundcheck, I could only imagine what it would sound like on stage in front of a packed audience.
While I still hope we get a studio cut of that cover one day, they laid down another classic that will satiate me in the meantime.
(Pause here to watch that clip because it’s too good to pass up.)

The East Texas boys put a rocking spin on Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode.” They have taken this 1958 single to the stage multiple times throughout the year, bringing the heat each time. At Cattle County Festival earlier this summer, the group took time out of their set to perform the song for the Texas crowd.
Cody Cannon is hyping up the crowd as he belts out the lyrics, but they use this song to highlight other aspects of the group than just the frontman’s killer vocals. They break down the melody between each verse, allowing each band member some time in the limelight. As Cannon sings the chorus, it’s almost as though he encourages his band members to give it their all with each line.
“Go, go
Go Johnny, go, go
Go Johnny, go, go
Go Johnny, go, go
Go Johnny, go, go.”
And they deliver. Everything about this performance is stellar.
