Abilene PD’s Traffic Tip Tuesday: Nearly 400 speeding citations issued in active school zones

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – In the first edition of the Abilene Police Department’s ‘Traffic Tip Tuesday,’ Traffic Officer Poynor highlighted the most common citation issued in 2024: speeding.

In a video shared on the APD Facebook page,

Officer Poynor revealed that during 2024, more than 3,300 speeding citations and warnings were issued, with nearly 400 of those taking place in active school zones.

“We want you to arrive on time and safe. Not late just because we issued you a court date,” Poynor said.

The numbers don’t lie: 60% of those cited were found driving more than 15 miles per hour over the speed limit.
