Suspect arrested in Comanche County after man killed in ‘random act of violence’ in Big Spring
BIG SPRING, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The Big Spring Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one person dead Sunday afternoon.

According to Big Spring PD, around 2:25 p.m. on January 5, officers were called to Kentucky Fried Chicken, located in the 1700 block of S Gregg. At the scene, investigators found 30-year-old Dustin Aaron Gutierrez in a Dodge truck; Gutierrez was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head and died after he arrived.

A suspect vehicle was identified and through investigative measures and in coordination with multiple agencies: Howard County Sheriff’s Department, Sweetwater Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety Rangers Division, Snyder Police Department, Scurry County Sheriff’s Department, Comanche County Sheriff’s Department, and Erath County Sheriff’s Department, around 1:15 p.m. on January 6, the suspect vehicle was located in Comanche County at which time a traffic stop was conducted. The driver, identified as 42-year-old Ruben Drake Silva, was taken into custody on a Murder charge.

“Detectives have found no correlation between Silva or Gutierrez and suspect this to be a random act of violence. This continues to be an ongoing extensive investigation, and no further information is available at this time,” the police department said in a news release. 

A mugshot of the suspect was not immediately available.
