ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – As the temperature drops, it’s easy for most of us to retreat indoors, crank up the heat, and cozy up with a blanket. But for livestock, staying warm can be much more challenging. That’s why the dedicated team at Jackson Brothers Feed and Seed on South Treadaway has been working tirelessly to help locals find the right products to keep their animals safe and warm this winter.

Manager Glenn Jackson explains that winter is the busiest, as animals need to eat more to stay warm. Recently, however, he’s noticed an increase in customers preparing early for the upcoming freeze, ensuring they have everything needed to care for their animals in the cold weather.

“You have to eat to stay warm. Even more importantly than eating, they need water; people forget about water. It ices over and stuff, but we’re all made of water, pretty much. So, we have to drink more water even when it’s cold outside. The animals are the same way,” Jackson explained.

But it’s not just hay and straw. Many customers have also been stocking up on other items, like heated water buckets, to prevent water from freezing and ensuring there’s enough food to keep their animals well-nourished throughout the winter.

“We sell feed for the animals, hay shavings, [and] stock tank de-icer. It can keep the water troughs and stuff clear of ice so they can still drink out of them. Blankets for the horses, blankets for the dogs, sweaters…” Jackson listed.

If you’re still in need of supplies, Glenn said that there’s plenty available. The store plans to remain open, even in the cold weather, to ensure everyone has access to the feed and supplies needed for their livestock.
