The Thompson family, made up of a mother, father, and two teenage children, says they were all asleep when their home on the 1900 block of N 7th Street caught fire just before 3:30 a.m.
Parents Tonya and Cliff say their teenage daughter woke everyone up to let them know there was a fire and that by that time, the entire house was engulfed in flames.
All four family members were able to escape without injury but their pets, a dog and three cats, were killed and many of their belongings were destroyed.
An official cause of this fire has not been released, but the Thompsons say investigators believe it was possibly electrical, stemming from a fried power strip that had a heater plugged into it.
At this time, the Abilene Fire Department estimates the fire caused a total of ,000 worth of damage.
The Thompson Family says they attend South Pointe Church and that donations for their family will be managed there.
