Michael Chandler, Manager of Bad Boyz Fireworks, told KTAB/KRBC that people should be aware of where they live before setting off fireworks.
“Always make sure to know where you live and what you can and can’t do. Sometimes, we get rambunctious. Be respectful of your neighbors. Talk to them,” Chandler said. “Don’t shoot into trees and things that could catch fire; always have 911 ready. If you do.”
Judge Phil Crowley of the County Commissioners stated that when considering the sale of fireworks, they prioritize what is best for the residents.
“In drier conditions, we would have to prohibit the use and sale, so we try to lean towards freedom but also have an eye on it. Just when we had to make that decision, by law, the conditions weren’t as dry as they are right now,” Crowley said.
Setting off fireworks within the city limits of Abilene is illegal and can result in a fine of up to $500.
