2 adults, 4 children killed in Wednesday morning wreck in Hartley County

HARTLEY COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Texas Department of Public Safety released further details on the fatal crash that led to six deaths seven miles east of Hartley on US Highway 87.

According to officials, the deceased was identified as 31-year-old Jaredi Mpaweingabire of Cactus and his five passengers, 28-year-old Mapendo Olga, a 5-year-old male child, a 6-year-old female child, a 4-year-old female and a 2-year-old male child all from Cactus. All were wearing seatbelts except for the children, whose seatbelt use remains unconfirmed.

Texas DPS officials said the Honda Pilot was traveling westbound on US 87 when, for an unknown reason, it veered into the eastbound lane. The oncoming 2016 Freightliner M2 box truck collided with the SUV and its trailer. The impact caused the trailer to detach, and the SUV caught fire, becoming fully engulfed in flames.

The driver of the Freightliner was transported to Coon Memorial Hospital in Dalhart with non-life-threatening injuries.

HARTLEY COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Hartley County Fire and EMS reported that six people were killed in a wreck seven miles east of Hartley on US Highway 87.

According to Hartley Fire and EMS, its crews were called to a crash that happened seven miles east of Harley at 12:26 a.m. on US Highway 87. When crews arrived they said they found the roadway blocked by an SUV that appeared to have collided with a box type delivery truck.

The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital. The six occupants of the SUV were reported to be dead.

Harley Fire and EMS said the Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department and AMR Dalhart were called in to assist.
