ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – After December 25, people’s attention shifts to the beginning of the new year. If you want to start it off with a bang, you’re in luck! The Taylor County Commissioners Court has approved the sale of fireworks this year.
Commissioners had to decide by the 15th of this month to implement a firework ban for New Year’s. During the meeting on December 3, Commissioners expressed concerns about the challenges of accurately forecasting weather and fuel conditions in advance. However, they can still convene an emergency meeting if necessary to impose a ban on fireworks.
Just as a reminder, fireworks are not allowed to be set off within Abilene city limits. Residents who discharge fireworks within city limits could receive a Class C citation and a fine of up to $500.
