Mayor Greg Treadwell and council members Garland Childers and Jason Moore resigned during a recent city council meeting where members voted to reinstate Beax Newlun as Tye’s Assistant Fire Chief. Newlun was previously removed from this role as part of some disciplinary action.
Half of the fire department also left their gear on the city council desk following the meeting.
Police Chief Christopher Selander and Economic Development Director Cody Ellis are now helping with administrative and secretarial duties while there are vacancies in the city, and official city business is able to continue as usual.
“We do have a quorum still. We can still do city business. We still have three council members for regular meetings,” Ellis explains. “We cannot have special meetings, but city business will move forward.”
Tye still has 3 remaining council members, including a mayor pro-tem, and the City is hopeful to fill the empty positions during a special election next year.
