SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — A Robert Lee ISD bus carrying the girls varsity basketball team crashed on Sunday, Dec. 15.

According to a release statement from Superintendent Aaron Hood, minor injuries were reported in the wreck.

The girls basketball team was traveling back from a basketball tournament hosted by Borden County ISD when the collision with the pickup truck occurred.

“While the accident was major, we are truly thankful for God’s protection of our kids and coaches,” the statement read. “Minor injuries were reported but everyone is doing well at this time.”

Hood thanked those who assisted including the Texas Department of Safety, Borden County Sheriff’s Office, bystanders who stopped and parents who returned to the scene.

“Everyone did a fantastic job making sure our kids were safe and taken care of,” Hood shared. “I especially want to thank the numerous school districts, community members, and people across the entire state who immediately began sending up prayers for our kids and coaches.”

Our school district truly believes in God’s protection and the power of prayer. It was only by the grace of God that we were able to avoid a horrible tragedy and walk away with minor injuries. We are truly thankful and blessed.
