Some people love them, some people hate them, some refuse to acknowledge their existence. They have been called everything from a money grab to innovation to a joke. But new gtld’s did reach a milestone this week at Namebio.
There have now been 20,000 reported new gtld domain name sales and over $50M. The highest reported new gtld domain name sale took place this February with Bet.bet selling for $600,000.
Registries have made sales, but so have domain investors, from Swetha to DomainHacks.com to Domaincracy, Michael Berkens, WebQuest and many more, it’s been quite the decade’s long journey. In 2022 I took a look at all the sales and we were just over 13,000 and I brokedown the six figure sales.

If one looks at new gtlds as a whole category vs country code (cctlds) sales you will see that there are almost 8 times as many sales and roughly 5.5 times the dollar volume ($283M for cctlds).
The thing that is consistent is the average sales price, $2,500 seems to be the magic number.
