ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The search for James Wesley Key, a suspect in a Tuesday Evening officer involved shooting continues. Abilene Police and SWAT surrounding a home in South Abilene on Tuesday night. Witnesses on scene report hearing officers ordering “James” to surrender.

On Thursday evening, police established a presence in the 700 block of Locust Street while searching for James Wesley Key, the suspect in an officer-involved shooting. Numerous officials and resources are on the scene, including the APD SWAT Bearcat unit, Mobile Command Center and drones.

Officials with the Abilene Police Department confirmed to KTAB/KRBC on scene that multiple rounds of gas were deployed into the house, and just after 9:00 p.m. multiple gunshots were fired from inside the home. It is not known who fired those shots. No one was hit by the gunfire and no officers fired their weapons.

Just after 11:00 PM the Lubbock Police Department SWAT team arrived to assist APD. The multiple armed and outfitted LPD officers arrived in the Lubbock SWAT ‘bearcat’ unit. In addition, a flatbed carrying an armored bulldozer type vehicle arrived from Lubbock as well.

Police have cordoned off the area while searching for the suspect. Please avoid the area for now.
