FAIRVIEW,
Fairview 50 – Section 36 (Varsity Girls)
A quick basket by Darby Nichols and a trey by Lexi Golden gave Fairview a 5-0 lead, but an 11-2 run by Section gave them an 11-7 lead. Nichols put in a basket in the paint to cut it to 13-10 late in the first, but a trey by the Lady Lions made it 16-10 after one. Golden collected the steal and went coast-to-coast for the layup to cut it to 16-12, then a pair of baskets by Whitney Quick and one by Kailyn Redding gave the Lady Aggies a 19-16 lead late in the first half. Section drilled a pair of treys to end the first half, and they took a 22-19 lead into the locker room.
Whatever was said in the locker room definitely worked, as Fairview got off to a red-hot start in the third quarter. Quick buried a trey from the left wing, and Davi Stidham scored five straight points to give the Lady Aggies a 27-22 lead. Golden made a tough basket around the free-throw line, and Stidham collected a layup off a steal, as their lead stayed at five at 31-26. Nichols drained a three and later found Mali Gregory for a basket down low to make it 36-26, and baskets by Stidham and Nichols stretched their lead to 40-29 going into the final period.
The Lady Lions cut it to 40-33 early in the fourth, but a driving layup by Redding and seven points by Quick increased Fairview’s lead to 50-34 and the Lady Aggies went on to defeat Section 50-36.
Quick finished with 16 points for Fairview (7-4). Stidham added 11 points. Nichols collected nine points. Golden put up seven, and Redding ended up with six points.
Section 66 – Fairview 41 (Varsity Boys)
Section got out to a quick 4-0 lead, and Fairview’s first basket didn’t come until past the midway point of the first quarter on a floater by Carson Jones. The Lions quickly stretched their lead to 10-2 late in the first, but threes from the left wing by Jac Dunn and A.J. Wood cut the Aggie deficit to 12-8. Landun Smith added a pair of free throws to make it a 12-10 game going into the second.
Just like the first quarter, both teams had trouble hitting a basket early, as the first one didn’t come until Dunn’s trey with 4:25 left to go in the first half. That gave Fairview a 14-13 lead, and a layup by Zayden Cruce made it 16-13. Section got red-hot from deep to end the first half, drilling four treys, as that helped them take a 27-18 lead into the locker room.
Calin Collins drained a trey to make it a 27-21 game early in the third, but five straight points by Section stretched their lead to 32-21. Baskets in the paint by Collins, Blake Rickard, and Dunn cut it to 32-27. The Lions made it a 38-29 game late in the third, but a driving layup by Jones trimmed it to 38-31. Fairview would find themselves down, 40-31, after three.
Smith put in a basket in the paint to make it a 40-33 game early in the fourth, then a pair of baskets down low by Rickard and a floater by Cruce cut it to 46-39. Unfortunately for Fairview, it would be all Section after that, as they went on a 20-2 run to take control of the game, and the Aggies ended up falling to the Lions, 66-41.
Dunn and Rickard each put in 10 points for Fairview (7-6), while Collins and Smith each finished with five points.
Fairview will remain home to host Arab Friday night.
