Three Idaho men arrested in 24 hours, including one from Bannock County, for possession of child porn

Skylar Dean Reed | Bannock County Jail

POCATELLO — Three Idaho men were arrested in just 24 hours for allegedly having child porn, including a 24-year-old man in eastern Idaho.

Attorney General Raúl Labrador announced Tuesday that investigators with his Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children

(ICAC) Task Force arrested Terry Stoner, 64, in Elmore County, Michael Boyd, 52, in Ada County, and Skylar Dean Reed, 24, in Bannock County.

Reed is charged with ten felonies for possession of child sexual exploitation material and was booked into the Bannock County Jail. The ICAC Task Force was assisted by the Pocatello Police Department, Boise Police Department and Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

“The hard work of our investigators and our expanding network of law enforcement partnerships is paying off,” Attorney General Raúl Labrador said in a news release. “Each ICAC arrest makes our community safer and removes those who prey on and exploit kids. We will be relentless in our defense of Idaho’s vulnerable children.”

According to court documents, on Nov. 12, an officer with the Pocatello Police Department got a call from a Boise Police Department detective. He explained that he was investigating Reed.

The detective said Reed had been downloading child porn using both Discord and the Kik social media platforms, court documents said. According to his investigation, the downloads happened in both Pocatello and Boise.

The cyber tips about the downloads came to the detective in Boise from social media platforms.

Once the detective in Boise told the Pocatello officer about Reed, the Pocatello officer began conducting surveillance at Reed’s Bannock County home.

The officer obtained a search warrant for Reed’s home, which detectives and the Pocatello Police Department executed Tuesday.

Court documents said Reed was detained and brought to the Pocatello Police Department for an interview. The detective from Boise and the police officer from Pocatello interviewed him.

He reportedly confirmed his usernames on the social media apps to law enforcement. Reed also admitted that he was “addicted to pornography.” He said he first started viewing adult pornography and then transitioned to looking at child pornography, court documents said.

Reed said he mostly viewed and downloaded child porn using Kik. He also reportedly told law enforcement that he sent child porn on Kik and that he viewed child porn on Telegram, another social media platform.

He estimated the youngest child he saw in child porn content was approximately two years old. Reed said videos and images of children he saw included children being raped, court documents said. Reed told law enforcement that most of the children were girls, but some were boys.

He handed over two cell phones to law enforcement, and multiple files of child porn were found on them.

Reed was given a $75,000 bond and sent to pretrial supervision. He also cannot have any contact with a minor under 18.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at the Bannock County courthouse on Dec. 4 at 9 a.m.

Anyone with information regarding the exploitation of children is encouraged to contact the Pocatello Police Department at (208) 234-6100, the Attorney General’s ICAC Unit at 208-947-8700, or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678.

The Attorney General’s ICAC Unit works with the Idaho ICAC Task Force, a coalition of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, to investigate and prosecute individuals who use the internet to criminally exploit children, a news release said.

Though Reed has been charged with these crimes, it does not necessarily mean he committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
