The following includes a news release from Central Fire District.
LORENZO — A woman was injured after jumping out of the window of her home in Lorenzo to escape a house fire Saturday morning.
Two people were at the property, located at 690 North 4140 East, when the fire ignited about five miles northeast of Rigby.
Initially, when the fire began, one woman was still inside the residence.
She was forced to jump out of the window.
The woman injured her elbow during the escape and sustained minor cuts, scrapes and mild smoke inhalation.
The flames were initially reported at 10:50 a.m.
About a dozen firefighters from Central Fire District’s Rigby, Menan and Lewisville stations responded to the scene with three fire engines, two water tenders, an ambulance and two quick response units, Central Fire District Chief Nic White said.
An overhead power line had fallen down across a vehicle in the driveway, and firefighters also had to navigate hazards such as portable propane heaters and small propane cylinders in the area.
According to Jefferson County dispatch, all residents were out of the house before firefighting personnel arrived.
The injured woman was examined by Emergency Medical Services personnel on scene and advised to go the emergency department for observation.
The house is considered a total loss.
The fire appears to have originated on the southeast side of the structure.
Rocky Mountain Power was dispatched to help isolate the power.
Once the power was isolated and shut down, the firefighters were able to start attacking the fire.
Fire crews had the flames knocked down and controlled by about 11:30 a.m.
The investigation of the fire determined that a small portable propane heater had malfunctioned, which the homeowner said caused the fire.
Central Fire thanks Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Rocky Mountain Power for their assistance responding to this incident.
