Key details on Heise Hot Springs inferno released by Central Fire District

The following includes a news release from Central Fire District.

HEISE — Arcing electricity, chlorine and propane all presented obstacles as more than 20 firefighters battled a massive blaze at Heise Hot Springs on Friday night.

But in spite of the fire, all pools at Heise Hot Springs are reopening Saturday, the resort shared on Facebook, after Central Fire District firefighters successfully contained the intense flames that erupted in the summer pool’s slide pump room, forcing an evacuation of the resort.

Central Fire District was dispatched to the structure fire at the Heise main hot pool on 5116 Heise Road, six and a half miles from Ririe.

Jefferson County dispatch reported that all patrons were evacuated out of the hot pool and main lodge.

Ririe, Rigby and Central Fire were dispatched to the fire.

Power was arcing making it difficult to spray water on the fire. The fire seemed to have started on the east side of the building, where the electrical and back-up generators were located.

Rocky Mountain Power was dispatched to help isolate the power.

Once the power was isolated and shut down, the fire crew was able to start attacking the fire.

Fire crews had the blaze controlled around 8:30 p.m.

Other hazards on scene that fire crews had to consider were chlorine and propane. Chlorine was used in the water treatment. The fire came close to the chlorine tanks, but there was no chlorine leak. Propane was used for heating.

Fire loss was kept to the back portion of lodge and electrical/mechanical room. Upon investigation of the fire, it was determined the flames originated in the electrical/mechanical room.
