Dr. Phil Carroll Astin, Doctor Of Chris Benoit, Passes Away At Age 67

Dr. Phil Carroll Astin, III, has passed away at the age of 67. Born in Carroll County, Georgia, on September 27, 1954, Astin is best known to those in the wrestling community as the personal physician of Chris Benoit. After the tragic double murder-suicide that left Benoit, his wife, and his young son dead in June 2007, Astin was sentenced to 10 years in prison for illegally distributing prescription drugs to patients. He was sentenced in May 2009 after pleading guilty earlier that year to 175 counts that including illegally distributing prescription drugs. Fightful has learned that Dr. Astin passed away from a heart attack on Friday, June 24. Dr. Phil Astin, who was Chris Benoit’s personal doctor, died of a heart attack recently, Fightful has learned. The family of Nancy Benoit filed a wrongful death suit against him. He and his late father, Dr. Astin, Jr., practiced internal medicine together in Carrollton for many years and was currently working for Cowart Industrial Services.
